Find the right bedside lamp for your bedroom
A good bedside lamp gives enough light to read a few pages, but not so much that you wake the person next to you. Choose a lamp that directs the light down towards your book rather than out into the room, and one that can be dimmed. In the evening we recommend warm light of around 2700 K, as it feels calmer than cold, white light.
Bedside lamp on the table or on the wall?
It mostly depends on space. If your bedside table has room for a lamp, a table lamp such as Expo Table is the simple solution, and it moves with you if you rearrange the room. If the bedside table is small, a wall bedside lamp frees up space. On Expo Wall the light source sits recessed in the shade, so it does not dazzle you when you lie down. Both are switched on and off with a touch button. See all our wall lamps and table lamps.
Dimmable bedside lamp
With a dimmable bedside lamp you can turn the light down when you put your book away instead of switching it off completely. Ambience Lamp Intelligent+ and Light 155 have a built-in dimmer. You dim them on the lamp itself or from your phone in the sackit app via Bluetooth, so you do not have to get out of bed. The lamps in the Expo series cannot be dimmed with a standard bulb, but they work with smart bulbs if you want to control the light from your phone.
Cordless bedside lamp
A cordless bedside lamp runs on a rechargeable battery. There is no cable behind the bedside table, and you do not depend on where the socket is. Ambience Lamp Intelligent+ is 9 cm in diameter and fits even on a narrow bedside table. At half brightness and a couple of hours of use each evening, one charge lasts more than a week. Bedside lamp for a child's room
In a child's room a lamp without a cable is safer, because there is no cable for a child to pull. Turn the light right down in the evening and the lamp also works as a night light. You will find more advice under night lights.
Where to place your bedside lamp
For reading, the light should fall over your shoulder and hit the book from the side. As a rule of thumb, a wall-mounted bedside lamp sits 60–75 cm above the mattress. If the lamp stands on the bedside table, the lower edge of the shade should be roughly at eye level when you sit up in bed. That way you see the light from the side and not straight into the bulb.
If the rest of the room needs new light as well, you will find more ideas under bedroom lighting.
FAQ – Frequently asked questions
What colour temperature is best for a bedside lamp?
Warm light of around 2700 K. It is easy on the eyes in the evening, and it is the colour temperature of Light 155, Ambience Lamp Intelligent+ and Bulb GU10.
How long does the battery last in a cordless bedside lamp?
Over 24 hours at 50% brightness. At 80%, Light 155 lasts 16 hours and Ambience Lamp Intelligent+ 14 hours.
Can a bedside lamp be charged via USB?
Yes. Light 155 is charged with the included USB-C cable. The adapter is not included, so you need a standard USB charger.
Do the Expo lamps come with a bulb?
No. Expo Wall and Expo Table use a GU10 bulb that is sold separately, for example Bulb GU10.
Can I adjust the light on Expo Wall?
Yes. The lamp head sits on a ball joint, so it can be turned 360 degrees and tilted 35 degrees up and down. That lets you point the light down at your book.
