Dining Room Lighting
The dining table is where the family gathers for meals, homework and games. Here you will find dining room lighting that lights up the table without dazzling anyone.
Find the right lighting over the dining table
Good dining room lighting lights up the whole table top, so everyone can see the food and each other, without dazzling those sitting at the table. Choose the lamp to suit the shape of the table. A round or square table suits one pendant, while a long table needs several pendants in a row. Choose warm light so the meal feels cosy.
Pendant light over a round dining table
A round table or a smaller dining table suits one pendant light. Dawn Pendant Ø40 gathers the light over the table, and the perforation at the top sends a little light up to the ceiling. The bulb sits recessed behind a white inner shade, so it does not dazzle the people around the table. See the whole Dawn series.
Long table with several pendants
Over a long table, two or three pendants at the same height give an even light along the whole table. Expo Pendant is 6 cm in diameter and takes up little space, so several in a row look calm. Dawn Pendant Ø25 is an alternative if you want a little more light up towards the ceiling. See all our pendant lights.
How high to hang a light over a dining table
As a rule of thumb, the lamp hangs 60–70 cm above the table top, so you can see the people opposite without looking into the light. If you hang several pendants, as a rule of thumb there should be 60–80 cm between them.
Dimmable light for long evenings
The light over the dining table is used for homework and for long dinners. Dawn and Expo Pendant work with smart bulbs, so you can dim the light from your phone once the meal is over. For Dawn we recommend a crown-silvered E27 bulb such as Bulb 6W E27, which gives 2700 K.
If you still need the table itself, see our dining tables and dining chairs. You will find inspiration for the whole dining room in our Dining Lookbook.
